Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, Fotofacial skin rejuvenation is a powerful yet gentle, minimally invasive technique that helps you achieve improvements in skin tone, texture and color.

HOW DOES IPL WORK?

Intense pulsed light works by delivering precise amounts of light energy through your skin's surface using a specialized handpiece. The light energy is absorbed by the target tissue (redness, brown spots or both) resulting in disruption of the unwanted skin color. Over time, redness and brown spots will begin to fade, leaving your skin looking more vibrant and rejuvenated. In addition, the light energy helps stimulate production of natural collagen, which helps improve large pore size, fine lines, wrinkles.

Using our advanced IPL system, light energy is delivered through the skin removing facial redness, erasing pigmented spots, reducing pore size and improving fine lines. After one or two treatments, your skin will begin to show more even tone and a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will start to fade and pores can become less apparent. Fine lines and wrinkles may begin to soften over time. These improvements continue with each treatment. A series of five or six photofacial treatments are recommended (at 3-6 week intervals) in order to achieve the best results.

IPL Fotofacials are associated with only minimal discomfort. A majority of patients will develop a faint pink blush following the procedure, which can be concealed readily with makeup. Most patients are able to return to work or resume normal activity immediately after the procedure.

PHOTODYNAMIC IPL TREATMENTS

Photodynamic IPL offers a more aggressive version of the IPL Fotofacial for patients willing to experience a little more downtime. Photodynamic IPL results in more post treatment redness along with peeling, however, can provide much more dramatic results. Photodynamic treatment utilizes the application of ALA (aminolavulanic acid), or Levulan, prior to the laser treatment. Levulan is a photosensitizing agent that is activated by the IPL blue light spectrum. This promotes deeper penetration of the light energy into the deeper skin layers with more dramatic skin changes as a result. While photodynamic IPL is not recommended for all patients, it is an option for those seeking a more aggressive treatment. In addition to improving red or brown skin changes, Photodynamic IPL is also indicated for treatment of precancerous skin conditions such as actinic keratosis (AKs), or sun-damaged skin. It is also effective in treating moderate to severe cystic acne.
