Example of a unique type of cosmetic ear surgery intended to reduce the actual size of the upper auricle. This condition, known as macrotia, involves an overly developed upper half of the ear. Ear reduction surgery was performed to create a smaller ear. This was done by removing excess cartilage and not by pinning the ear back as in normal otoplasty surgery. This type of surgery is also referred to as scapha or scaphoid reduction of the ear. If you compare the before and after surgery photos, you can appreciate how the ear is now smaller from top to bottom as well as from front to back.
