That is because otoplasty, or ear pinning, does not address the top to bottom dimensions of the ear. Only macrotia surgery can do that. \n\nIn this particular case, the top half of the ear was notably too large - resembling a shell-like deformity. This patient found Dr. Hilinski online as one of the only plastic surgeons in the United States who performs this type of ear reduction surgery. He ended up reducing the overall size of this ear by taking away cartilage and skin. He also reduced the size of the earlobes by taking away tissue along the bottom margin. Furthermore, he tried to reduce an abnormal cartilage prominence involving what is called the helical crus.
