The Consultation Process for Out of Town Patients
While there is no substitute for an in-depth, one-on-one consultation with Dr. Hilinski, we recognize that traveling for a consultation may not be immediately feasible. To assist with your decision, we offer a complimentary online screening consultation for out-of-town patients. This allows Dr. Hilinski to review your goals, medical history, and photographs prior to your visit.
Online Screening Consultation
The online consultation typically involves:
- Email correspondence between Dr. Hilinski and the patient
- Review of submitted photos (see below for details)
- Discussion of your surgical goals and medical history
In some cases, Dr. Hilinski may recommend a preliminary surgical plan based on this screening consultation. If so, you can schedule a surgical date and plan to meet with Dr. Hilinski 1-3 days before the surgery for an in-person consultation and final evaluation.
In other cases, Dr. Hilinski may advise an in-person consultation prior to scheduling surgery to ensure a more comprehensive assessment of your candidacy for the procedure.
Sending Photos for Review
For the online consultation, please send photos to help Dr. Hilinski assess your needs. Photos can be mailed in standard print format or uploaded directly via our Virtual Consultation page. Digital photos may also be emailed to [email protected]. We recommend submitting at least three views to provide a comprehensive perspective of the treatment area.

Recovery tip: When booking, we recommend requesting a quiet room near the elevator. Suite-style hotels with kitchenettes, such as Residence Inn, Homewood Suites, and Embassy Suites, work especially well for longer recovery stays.

Postoperative Stay and Care
After surgery, Dr. Hilinski typically recommends that you stay in San Diego for 10-14 days before traveling back home, depending on the procedure. During this time, you will attend an early postoperative visit within 1-3 days of surgery to monitor your recovery.
It is important to have a responsible family member or friend accompany you during the first few days of recovery. If this is not possible, we can help arrange for a private nurse to provide care for the first 24 hours following your surgery.

The closest airport is San Diego International Airport, located approximately 20 minutes from our office. Another nearby option is McClellan-Palomar Airport, which is about 24 minutes away.

In some cases, yes. If the online screening consultation provides enough information, Dr. Hilinski may schedule surgery with a follow-up in-person meeting 1-3 days before the procedure. In other cases, an in-person consultation is required before surgery can be scheduled.
