Pain-Free Nitrous Oxide

Page Updated:

At Dr. John Hilinski’s Med Spa in San Diego, we are dedicated to providing advanced cosmetic services in an exceptional environment. In an effort to provide you with the most comfortable experience possible, we offer nitrous oxide to help reduce pain and anxiety during non-surgical treatments. So if concerns of discomfort and/or fear of needles has been stopping you from undergoing a specific cosmetic treatment, you don’t have to worry any longer!

What Is Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a 50-50 mixture of nitrous and oxygen. When the gasses are combined and inhaled (breathed in) they make people feel simply relaxed and less bothered by mild to moderate painful stimuli, such as those that may result from minimally invasive cosmetic treatments.

Laughing gas has been used for a long time in the dental and healthcare industry to help relax patients as they undergo procedures. Thus, nitrous has a long-standing safety record. Over the past several years it has been adopted even more widely in the cosmetic medical spa industry to make treatments more comfortable for our patients.

The Nitronox System

Our Nitronox system was engineered and designed to give precisely controlled doses of nitrous oxide so that you can be as pain-free as possible. Nitronox is nearly identical to its competitor Pro-Nox with both systems delivering a 50-50 mixture of gasses.

Nitrous Oxide Experience

Nitrous oxide is self-administered—meaning the patient controls administration of the gas through a handheld tube. Just prior to the treatment, you simply breathe the gasses in; dosages are safely and automatically controlled by the device. In other words, you won’t be able to overdo it.

Within seconds of breathing in the nitrous oxide you will begin to feel calm and relaxed. Some patients will even act a little giddy as the sedative takes effect. The cosmetic treatment is then performed.

Once you start breathing regular room air again the sedative effects of the nitrous quickly subside. Patients are then able to leave the office and drive home within minutes of stopping the nitrous oxide while feeling wide awake and alert.

What Treatments Can I Get With Nitrous Oxide?

We offer nitrous oxide sedation for a wide variety of cosmetic treatments, including but not limited to the following:

Cost of Nitrous Oxide

In nearly all medical spas and plastic surgery clinics, nitrous oxide sedation is considered an ‘add-on’ service because of the additional overhead costs. Therefore, additional charges will apply above and beyond the aesthetic treatment pricing.
