This is an example of lower eyelid blepharoplasty performed to reduce the excess prominence of skin and muscle. Notice in her before photo how there is a prominent ridge or fullness running along the lower eyelid just below the lashes. I performed a lower eyelid tuck that involved making an incision along the lower eyelid and tightening the skin and underlying muscle. This is not a case where the patient had excess fatty tissue under the eyes (also referred to as eye bags). This is, instead, a case where the orbicularis oculi muscle was too thick – creating a ridging effect. Notice how her surgical scar is barely visible following the procedure. And, more importantly, notice how much smoother her lower eyelid now is after the skin and muscle have been reshaped.
