How long does the appointment take?
You can expect to spend a total of about an hour at the office for a Sculptra treatment. The majority of the this time is dedicated to the preparation, including application of a topical numbing agent over the desired treatment areas. The actual injection portion is only a couple of minutes!
What happens during treatment?
Patients are told to arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to their treatment, in order to allow ample time for numbing. A topical numbing medication is applied to the skin prior to treatment. Once the numbing cream has done it’s job, the skin is then prepped with an antiseptic, antimicrobial skin cleanser. Sculptra is then carefully prepared and injected by Dr. Hilinski. Sculptra is mixed with lidocaine prior to injection, aiming to make the treatment as painless as possible. Most patients are very comfortable during the injection process.
What happens after treatment?
Upon leaving the office, Dr. Hilinsk’s staff will provide you with aftercare instructions following Sculptra treatment. You will be instructed to massage the injected areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, and for about 5 days. Dr. Hilinski and the staff will demonstrate how to properly perform this type of massaging. Massaging the areas treated with Sculptra helps to promote a smooth distribution of the product, thus aiding in the best possible results. This is also a critical step in terms of helping to reduce the incidence of nodule formation.
Will I see results right away?
Since Sculptra works by stimulating your own collagen production, it will take some time to see your results. After all, you didn’t lose that collagen overnight! You can expect to gradually watch the results emerge over the course of a few weeks to a few months. However, patients will see an immediate response of fullness, which we like to call a “preview,” that lasts for about 24-72 hours. Dr. Hilinski will typically see patients 6-8 weeks after their initial Sculptra treatment to check on the progress. Most patients can expect results to last upwards of 2 years.
